Men In Black II

Cast: Tommy Lee Jones, Will Smith, Rip Torn, Lara Flynn Boyle, Tony Shalhoub, Rosario Dawson Dir: Barry Sonnenfeld

Cert: PG

Running Time: 88 minutes

The title's unimaginative and the film's pretty predictable but MIB II still manages to serve up some great entertainment

It's been five years since our alien-seeking sleuths saved the world in the first movie.

Agent Kay (Lee Jones) has since returned to the comforts of civilian life while Jay (Smith) continues to work for the Men in Black, the highly funded yet unofficial government agency that regulates all things alien on earth.

While investigating a seemingly routine crime, Jay uncovers a diabolical plot masterminded by Serleena (Flynn Boyle), an evil monster who disguises herself as a sexy lingerie model in her bid to find the hidden Light of Zartha.

Earth's very existence depends on its whereabouts - but the secret is locked in the mind of Kay, who must be 'deneuralysed' and suited up.

Smith and Lee Jones are as brilliant and sarcastically engaging a double act as they were in the first film while Lynn Boyle and Dawson provide the eye candy.

But it's Jay's new partner, Frank the singing Pug, who steals the show.

The script is sketchy and the plot is little more than a string of witticisms and jolly japes seemingly rehashed from the original MIB.

Generally amusing and likeably fun without serving up anything new.

As this was a film that we all wanted to see, we decided to go on a Tuesday night and dress for the occasion.
